Kim Teachout Thomas
PWDA Owner/Director/Instructor
Jazz/Lyrical/Tap/Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet/Competitive Dance Team
Ms. Kim has worn dance shoes since before she took her first steps! She trained in her mother’s Alexandria, Virginia dance studio, and her grandparents were early vaudeville and radio personalities who eventually settled down in Shenandoah, Iowa to raise a family. There they owned and operated a local movie theatre, where dancers, comedians, and musicians performed live before and during the movie reels. Ms. Kim’s mother studied dance with renowned teachers in the Midwest and California, was a faculty member of the Chicago chapter of NADAA , taught at major dance conventions, owned and operated studios in Iowa, Colorado and North Dakota before moving with her family to Virginia in 1963. She owned and operated studios in Virginia for 35 years. Her dance legacy lives on through her daughters, Kim and Kay, who both own private dance studios.
Ms. Kim graduated from George Mason University with a B.S. degree in health education. For the last 40 years, she has pursued a dual career in dance and movement education. Ms. Kim works with children of all ages, as well as adults and seniors. As a teacher with skills in many disciplines, she continues to study dance and movement education by attending classes, workshops and teacher conventions taught by master instructors and luminaries of the dance world, such as Savion Glover, Mia Michaels, Tommy Alexander, Beverly Fletcher, and the late Gus Giordano, Frank Hatchet & Luigi . Ms. Kim performed as a member of the George Mason University Dance Troupe, and at many local events including the International Children’s Festival at Wolf Trap, musical theater, recitals, and community events during her earlier career.
Ms. Kim spent more than six years as a health educator at the Alexandria Hospital and is a former adjunct faculty member in the Health/Fitness/Dance department of Essex Community College in Baltimore County, Maryland. She was director of fitness programming in both nonprofit and private fitness clubs as well as a personal trainer and group fitness & aquatics instructor. She was one of the original staff instructors hired for GMU’s Freedom & Aquatics Fitness Center in Manassas when it opened in1999, and she continues to teach several classes a week at FAFC. She has held ACE (Gold) Certification in Group Fitness, with specialty certifications in Older Adults, Personal Training and Aquatic Exercise, Pre/Post Natal programming, and Teacher Training Certification from Dance Masters of America. Kim recently completed course work at Towson State University in Functional Awareness: Anatomy in Action for Movement Educators and Practioners, and is a current member of National Dance Educators Organization (NDEO) and other dance professional/studio owner organizations, and maintains active certifications in aquatic & fitness education.

Ashley Tauzier
Creative Movement, Children’s Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Adult classes, Competition Dance Team
Originally from New Orleans, Ashley and her family re-located to Virginia from Georgia. Ashley has her Dance Masters of America certification in ballet, tap, and jazz. She has taught in private dance studios as well as recreational programs in New Orleans, Texas, and Georgia, and we are thrilled that she now calls PWDA home! A highly skilled teacher, Ashley recently became a licensed real estate agent. This busy mom of two & proud military wife will be celebrating eight years with PWDA this fall!

Allison Geary
Ballet, Pointe, Modern
Allison Geary's passion for dance began with her training at the Gwinnet Ballet Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. She went on to study with the Boston Ballet, Houston Ballet, Lexington Ballet, Georgia Governor's Honors Program, and as an apprentice with the Orlando Ballet. She danced professionally with the Orlando Ballet for 8 years, and danced principal roles in Nutcracker, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Swan Lake and many other classical and contemporary ballets. She has performed with Walt Disney World, and has been a guest artist with smaller performing art companies. She has choreographed several children's ballets including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Peter & the Wolf, The Puppet Fairy, and Cinderella. She has coached several dancers for the American Youth Grand Prix and American Dance competitions. Allison has over 25 years of teaching experience and has taught at various schools in Florida, Georgia and Virginia. Allison begins her third year with PWDA and we are thrilled she will continue to share her expertise, creativity and talent with our PWDA students.

Patrice Blair
Acro, Competition Dance, Elite Jazz & Contemporary, Leaps & Turns
Patrice Blair, a consummate teacher, technician, and choreographer, is a skillful and creative professional who works with children of all ages. Originally from Pennsylvania, she began dancing at age 3 in her mothers's studio, and by age 10 she was studying ballet, tap, baton, mime, gymnastics, voice and violin. By age 15, she was a state, regional, and national baton champion, and a featured twirler and performer with Red Land High School. Patrice attended the University of Mississippi, studying ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, choreography, tap, and musical theater. She performed with two dance companies, and was named Dancer of the Year by University staff in 1993. After Patrice moved to Virginia, she directed Youth performance companies, high school marching bands, dance teams, and baton clubs, and taught dance clinics with local county theater groups and school dance teams. For 14 years, Patrice trained competition and recreational dancers at her own dance studio , The Patrice Blair School of Dance and Baton. Many of her students won national championships, gained acceptance to dance teams, college dance programs, professional dance companies, and many became dance teachers and professional performers. She also designs and creates custom, competition dance costumes! Patrice is most proud to be a mom to Jacob and Maddie.

Claryssa Griffin
Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, modern, pointe, musical theater, ballet, tap, Acro
Claryssa Griffin started dancing when she was 3 years old and began competing in dance and cheerleading at age 6. As a student at Arabesque Dance studio and B-Funk dance studio, she continued her dance training in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, pointe, hip hop and musical theater and performed in 3 or 4 shows a year and competed 4 & 5 times a year until she graduated from high school.
She was an assistant student teacher, and then taught her own classes both in the studio, at the local YMCA and for after school programs. During high school, she was the captain of the dance/cheer team for 4 years, was an All-Star cheerleader for 10 years, and Coaches All-Star cheerleader for 3 years.
Claryssa attended master classes in New York City with Monsters of Hip Hop and Alvin Ailey studio for modern and contemporary dance.
Claryssa moved to Florida and began her professional dance career performing and choreographing for Universal Studios and Six Flags, performed in several Super Bowl half time shows, professional basketball and football half time shows, and worked as a backup dancer in several movies. She has been coaching competitive dance for 17 years and has won many top awards for choreography. She holds an Acro/Gymnastic teacher certification and is a gifted dance teacher in multiple disciplines. She currently is a special education teacher in Stafford County and is a mom with two little girls.

Airianna Tauanuu- Guest Instructor/Tap Master Class
Airianna is an award-winning choreographer, both at the regional and national level. Her pieces have received several awards including: Industry Dance Awards nominee for tap, IDA Outstanding Performances, Hall of Fame Dance Challenge inductee, and Best Overall as well as best choreographer at several competitions. She teaches master classes throughout the Southeast and she is a Level 1 Dance Educators Association (DEA) certified instructor.
